The brave, surprise adventurers trying to survive a curse in the land of Barovia, Penance style. Despite the surrounding gloom, our escaped prisoners (mostly unfairly imprisoned) initially are dismayed but soon find some humour in the desperate demi-plane. No-one will ever think of Barovia the same way again! Least of all our adventurers.
